#73 Fire on the mountain 2000

Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Original Size: 3x700x1800mm
Available as: print

I got a large commission to paint a Scarborough scene on three canvas panels , I have just finished painting the middle panel of the ocean , and a big bush fire swept the mountain, meters away from our house. After a long night of fire fighting , I packed some coffee , my canvass, and paint . I walked right up to the fire line, and painted the smoldering mountain.

another interesting fact about this painting is there is no usage of white, The canvas is un primed, and the fabric paint becomes almost luminous when the afternoon sun shines through it.

The third panel was done a couple of weeks later when first shoots of growth was popping out through the scorched landscape.
