#263 Babai’s shop Jerusalem 2005
Medium: ink, water colors and acrylic on paper
Original Size: 297x210mm
My late grandfather Babaai, had a shop in a small alley behind the Jerusalem market since the early 1910.. He would travel on a donkey's back to get the stock from the old city. He was a head of his family since very young, later supported his 11 kids. He wrote his accounts in a huge book in an ancient language he alone understood. I loved my mother's and uncles stories of their childhood, growing up in poverty during war times, brave and hilarious.. When my mom passed away I went there and drew the old shops door, my heritage.
